Escaping The Heat Of The Santa Clarita Valley

I know that living in southern California, especially where I live at the northern end of the Santa Clarita Valley, that it will get hot from time to time.  (Well, during the summer that is most of the time.)  But there are days when the heat just drives you crazy and you have to get away. Luckily for us, relief is only 45 minutes away and not just a little relief, mind you, a lot!!

Take for instance yesterday.  It was 108 degrees when I decided…that’s it!!  Time to get cold!!  So, I threw the family in the car and drove 42 miles to Ventura.  In less than an hour it went from 108 to 68 degrees. That’s a 40 degree temperature change!!!!  From sweating to goose bumps…literally.  You see, there was a nice breeze blowing in Ventura Harbor and that made all the difference in the world.

Doesn’t that look nice??  That’s the view from a restaurant we ate an early dinner at called Brophy Bros. Restaurant & Clam Bar.  It’s right in Harbor Village and it was so nice to just sit and watch the boats, paddle surfers, and kayakers mosey along the water. Refreshing, too.

So, what do you do when it’s over 100 degrees and you need some relief? You head to the beach!!!

A Navy Ship Docks Off Malibu

It’s not every day you see a Navy destroyer off the coast of Malibu, but the the U.S.S. John Paul Jones was in town this weekend for the city’s first annual Navy Day weekend.

We headed out early from the Santa Clarita area to catch a glimpse of the ship and took our usual route out through Heritage Valley along Highway 126 and then over to Point Mugu and on down the coast to Malibu.  It was still foggy when we arrived at the ocean and while the sun was hiding behind the clouds, you could still see the ship really well.  It was anchored just off the pier and Malibu was crawling with sailors and people trying to catch a glimpse of this rare site.  Makes me wonder what all the dolphins were thinking about with that big ol’ ship out there.
